The vessel is designed to conduct chemical and biochemical experiments and for research work on ocean organisms. The ship is equipped with spaces and equipment for sampling by means of diving and trawling and for carrying out chemical, biochemical, physical-chemical, microbiological and biological research work.

Navigation system NAVOS 625, Hollming Ltd. Electronics; Satellite navigator, Loran-C, Omega, Doppler Log, Gyro Compass and Autopilot have been connected to the navigation computer. The radio station: tranceivers both for normal and emergency traffic, VHP radio telephones and a telex station; two radars, log, echo-sounder, RDF and navigator, etc. GMDSS installed
11 Laboratories: The Laboratory for Chemical Technology, located on the forepart of the main deck; three Biochemical Laboratories, a Spectroscopic Laboratory and a Laboratory for Physical Chemistry. Their spectrum of scientific instruments includes several Liquid and Gas Chroma-tographs, IR- , UV- Vis- and Fluorescence Spectrophotometers, Amino Acid and Carbon Hydrate Analyzers and a Gas Chromatograph/ Mass-Spectrometer system; Hydrobiological Laboratory; Laboratories and Chambers for Biological Experiments and Microbiology.The Biosynthesis Laboratory, on the wheelhouse deck, is equipped with a Liquid Scintillation Counter and Programmable Multichannel Analyzer. (Vivarium, a Glassblowing Worksshop and a Photo Laboratory; also refrigerated chambers, temperatures below -45°C.)

Accommodations: 69 persons - total of 43 cabins, consisting of 4 apartments, 13 single cabins (of which 6 contain an additional "Pullman-bed") and 26 twin-bed cabins.
The two mess rooms are designed for a total of 52 persons, galley.
